Building the future we want by cutting red tape for visionary projects and discouraging extractive developments
Escambia County is at a crossroads: we can continue with unchecked urban sprawl, or we can embrace a vision of sustainable, high-value growth. Joe Vinson will work to “cut the red tape” for developers who bring projects that align with our community’s long-term vision—such as infill housing, mixed-use developments, and green building initiatives. We should make it easy for local builders to do the right thing and harder for outside interests to do the wrong thing.
To protect our local character, Joe will discourage “extractive” development—projects where developers reap short-term profits while leaving the county to foot the bill for increased traffic and strained infrastructure. He supports updating our Land Development Code to include stronger requirements for green space and tree canopies. We need to ensure that as we grow, we don’t lose the very things that make Escambia County a beautiful place to live.
Sustainable planning also involves protecting our water quality, which is our most precious resource. Joe will advocate for stricter runoff regulations and the transition of aging septic systems to central sewer lines near our sensitive waterways. By planning with the environment in mind, we ensure that Escambia County remains a vibrant, healthy, and economically viable place for the next generation.
